Jeggings?

Jeggings were brought on by the resurgence in style of skinny jeans in the mid- to late-2000s, when a higher demand for even tighter style of pant came about.  Since jeggings are typically made of a denim/spandex blend, they are often worn on their own as opposed to under a skirt or dress. Some jeggings have zip-flies and pockets, while others just have an elastic waistband and no pockets.

With respect to material, jeggings fall into two main categories:
1.Jeggings that are legging material made to look like denim with fake pockets and belt loops; and

2.Jeggings that are a true cross between denim and legging material. "Denim jeggings" are essentially a denim fabric with the elasticity of a legging.

The latter are more similar to skinny jeans than the former. Some designers call "denim jeggings" pull-on jeans rather than jeggings.

Thank you Wikipedia!  I have been wanting a pair of jeggings, but, to be honest with you, I don't think I can pull them off.  I'm a little too stubby.  I'm only 5'2" which means the only way to pull them off, in my eyes, is to weigh 80 lbs.  That's just not happenin'!  I really think others look good in them, but then I get into the dressing room and immediately feel like a cow.  Maybe it's not as bad as I think, but I can't get myself to make the purchase.

One more thing!  Jeggings should NOT cost the same as jeans!  That's my own personal opinion.  Shouldn't they be right in between the cost of leggings and jeans?  Now that's just common sense.

What do you think about jeggings?  Are they awful, or should I fork over the dough?  By the way, I used to feel this same way about skinny jeans and now I love them.

  1. I am both anti-pajamajean and anti-jegging. What is the point? Jeans truly are not that uncomfortable and you would have to be incredibly lazy to wear them out in public. I am sure others feel completely different about them, which is fine, just know that I will give you the side-eye in public and not feel bad about it.

  2. just tried on jeggings tonight for the first time... but ended up going with skinny jeans with stretch... kinda like jeggings, but with the assurance my booty will *never* show through. [that horrible picture is my worst nightmare and what i see from time to time on other women... and i mean really, how would you know??]

You can totally rock the Jeggings. GO for it.

  4. I'm a plus sized girl and you will never catch me in a pair of jeggings or skinny jeans. I just don't think larger women need any more help making their top half look bigger. I get mad at plus size stores like Lane Bryant for even selling them, because they don't really look good on anyone above a size 12, in my opinion. I'm hoping this trend won't last.
Thanks for sharing Heidi and Lynsee!!

  5. I bought a cheap pair of jeggings at Target - they are closer to type 2 - denim, but with lots of stretch. They look just like skinny jeans! You would never know unless you pulled on them. I'm only 5'2" as well, and DEFINITELY weigh more than eighty pounds and I am obsessed with mine! I went back and bought a black pair, too. They are comfy, super easy to tuck into boots (which has led to me buying two new pairs of boots...) and also cute with heels or flats. I wear mine with longer tops; but, I prefer longer tops in general. I say, go for it! I bet you'd look super cute!

  6. I guess I feel that unless you're either in high school or still pretty young for an adult, or have a super thin build... then you should probably stay away from jeggings.

My mom, who is only 41, just bought a pair from Fashion Bug. She had to buy them from the juniors sections. I told her that should have been her first sign that she shouldn't have bought them... but she doesn't listen. & It's not that they don't look good on her, she manages to pull them off, I guess I just don't feel like its appropriate.
